THK is proud to once again sponsor the The History Museum Insights in History series for 2024. We're kicking things off on Wednesday, February 7, at 1:30 p.m. with Gabrielle Robinson, author of “Better Homes of South Bend: An American Story of Courage.” This Black History Month, join us in celebrating the inspiring stories of resilience and community. Gabrielle will talk about the successful efforts of a group of African American families who met in secret in 1950 to find a way to build homes in South Bend away from the factories and slums where they were currently living. Also answering questions from the audience will be Mike Jackson, whose family was one of the first to live in the new homes. A self-guided tour of the Worker’s Home, whose new iteration is of a 1950s African American family home, will be offered. General admission is only $3 and reservations are required by February 5 at 574-235-9664.

Last week, the THK team spent a day volunteering at Cultivate Food Rescue. Together, we helped prepare over 1,000 meals for our community! Cultivate is a local non-profit organization dedicated to reducing hunger and food waste in northern Indiana. They recover excess, quality food and redistribute it to schools, food pantries, shelters, and more. Through many strategic partnerships, Cultivate has become a leader in perishable food rescue, procurement, redistribution, and education in order to meet the nutritional needs of this region.
