Beacon Health System CEO Kreg Gruber says there are just two jobs in our health system: Those who provide direct patient care and those who support those who provide direct patient care. The Beacon Corporate Services teams fall into that second category and include about 1,200 dedicated individuals in departments such as Finance, Human Resources, Information Systems, Health Information Management, Coding, Infection Prevention, Logistics and many more. While these teams typically work behind the scenes, their contributions are significant and essential to fulfilling Beacon’s mission of delivering outstanding care, inspiring health and connecting with heart. And they include awesome individuals like Ashley McIntyre, an accounts payable specialist and Beacon Corporate Services’ February 2024 Inspire Award winner. Ashley was instrumental in implementing a new system for Finance with Bank of America, the second-largest bank in the United States. From creating training materials to leading online sessions, she was pivotal in ensuring a smooth transition to the new system. Her proactive approach also led to the development of new finance forms, enhancing efficiency across the board. “Ashley played a key role in making the conversion a success,” said Cortney Couture, director of Accounting. “She is very dedicated and a pleasure to work with.” Happy Hospital Week and congratulations to Ashley and all the 2023-2024 Inspire Award winners from Beacon Corporate Services: 2024: Smruti Damania, Infection Prevention Ashley McIntyre, Finance Jessica Kuhnle, Information Systems Mary Radde, Human Resources Joseph Bradley, Language Services 2023: Steve Maier, Information Systems Erek Sherwood, Information Systems James Pierce, Information Systems Sarah McCuddy, Information Systems Linda Brown, Corporate Patient Accounting Cynthia Stouder, Information Systems Terri Taube, Information Systems Thaddeus DeStefano, Information Systems Meaghan Coward, Information Systems Chris Swartz, Information Systems Casey Norton, Business Intelligence Aaron Reynolds, Human Resources #WeAreHealthcare #HospitalWeek

Sometimes babies just can’t wait until morning to make their debut, so our teams must be ready 24/7, including our nightshift nurses and staff from the Memorial Hospital Mother Baby Unit. Our commitment to caring extends to our teammates, too — Mother Baby Unit Clerk Carrie McClure was surprised with an impromptu party on her 20th work anniversary with Beacon. Congratulations, Carrie! Hospital care never stops and never sleeps. We are grateful to all of our dedicated Beacon teams who work through the night, providing care, compassion and comfort to those in need. #HospitalWeek #NightShiftGratitude #HospitalHeroes

Have you ever created a to-do list just to take care of yourself? There are so many important things to accomplish — but don’t let them get in the way of your physical and mental wellbeing. During National Women’s Health Week, we’ve made a checklist to help support the health needs of girls and women. See if you can complete each item on the list this week! Your future self will thank you. • Schedule your yearly well-woman visit with your primary care provider. It’s a great time to get important screenings or talk about your health goals. • Try a new fitness class — Beacon Health and Fitness centers offer fun classes alongside medical expertise. • Prep snacks with fruit and veggies for on the go during your week. That way when you’re feeling hungry, you’ve got a healthy option within reach. • Take time to unwind, relax and do an activity you enjoy. Go for a walk outside, read the book on your nightstand or dive back into a hobby. • Focus on good sleep habits, getting at least 7 hours of sleep in a quiet, dark room. Beacon offers you the tools and information you need to support your health. Learn more about Women’s Health services at beacon.health/womenshealth

Beacon teams collaborated with Five Star Life to offer a unique, six-week academic and leadership development experience for students from Navarre Middle School this year. Beacon’s Professional Development and Educational Services team members taught almost 120 students about infection prevention, hand washing, CPR, creating first-aid kits, how to stop bleeding and more. The transformative educational experience sparked enthusiasm and active engagement among the students, helping prepare them for success in both academics and future careers. #HospitalWeek #HealthcareGratitude

High school career fairs provide opportunities for our Beacon teams to inspire the next generation of caregivers in our community. Connecting with students early on can empower them to explore this fulfilling career path with confidence. Steve Spurrier, Director of Patient Care Services at Memorial Epworth Center, found that his experience during a fair at the Elkhart Area Career Center was worthwhile on a few levels. “It was wonderful interacting with the students,” Steve said. “What I found most uplifting is that while many of the students who visited our table were not interested in a career in our field, most were curious to learn more about the mental health services that Beacon offers. “Many shared either their personal experiences with mental health or that of their loved ones. So, while it is certainly important to attend career fairs to gain potential future associates, it works simultaneously as a type of community outreach and education for our communities on the services that we provide.” #HospitalWeek #MentalHealthMatters
